Description
Crispy, creamy cream cheese wontons are surprisingly easy to make at home! A simplified, family-friendly appetizer that’s ready in minutes and will impress everyone.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 package wonton wrappers
- 2–3 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten (optional)
- Vegetable or canola oil for frying OR cooking spray for air frying
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sliced green onions, garlic powder, sugar, and soy sauce (if using). Mix until smooth.
2. Lay out a few wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Keep the rest covered with a damp paper towel.
3. Lightly moisten the edges of each wrapper with water or beaten egg.
4. Place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
5. Fold the wrapper diagonally in half to form a triangle, pressing firmly along the edges to seal. Or bring all four corners up to the center and pinch to seal.
6. For frying: Heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry wontons 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
7. For air frying: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray wontons with cooking spray. Air fry for 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
8. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Neufchâtel cheese can be substituted for cream cheese. Add ground ginger or white pepper to the filling. For a crab rangoon twist, add imitation crab meat.
